Cian Copeland: The streets of Dublin and beyond
Cian Copeland is a 20 year old photographer from Dublin with a distinct style for shooting street photography. We came across Cian's work a number of months ago and have been keeping a close eye on it ever since. Cian was kind enough to share some of his photography with us here at The Balti Club, whilst also speaking a little bit about himself and his work.
Words from Cian: My style of photography is mostly street based, I mainly focus on funky people and in colourful places around the city. I sometimes shoot landscape photos but mostly urban landscapes. I use Lightroom to enhance the colours and image.
I started photography because of Instagram when I was 15. It was a photography app back then and I would just take photos with my iPhone 4 like leaves and clouds I really got into it though. I use the Nikon D3000, the first and only DSLR Ive ever had. I invested in a nikkor 55-300mm a long telephoto lens that helps me get closer to people and places. Other than that i don't really use anything else, Sometimes I would use a friends camera to get video or a shot if i didnt have my camera but ye i just use a bog standard D3000.
I never really got into film cameras, most of the lads I go out shooting with use film cameras and I don't just because I don't like missing shots and don't want to wait for my photos to be developed even though I appreciate the process a lot. I probably will get into it at some stage though.
Im influenced by a large amount of people that I follow on Instagram. @arnonld_daniel is a crazy photographer and i really enjoy his work. I do like @trashhand and @13thwitness, their stuff is very cool.
I love a lot of the photographers around Dublin right now, everyone has their own thing and its cool to see the city from their perspective.
The people i go out shooting with influence my work a lot I feel like I take different styles of photos with different people which switches it up a bit. shoutouts to @ringsaroundsaturn @dontrobmyflicks @podgedaly @illuminivan @theekarwash @paul.devaney
I want to get more into filmmaking in the future, I'm hoping to grow my brand @visual.antics, right now I'm just doing bits of graphic design work right now but I want to grow it into something bigger, I have no clue what that is yet though.
