Billy Boyd Cape is a London born filmmaker and photographer. We came across his work on Instagram a few months ago and have been following him keenly since. His candid style of photography is both eye catching and alluring. His shots are a lesson in finding beauty in the simplest of moments.
We were also extremely impressed with Billy's videos, in particular his video 'a wander through Hong Kong' which was featured as a staff pick on Vimeo. In it, Billy captures both the busyness and the tranquility of the big city by shifting his focus between micro moments, such as a boat departing a marina, and then, as the video progresses, cutting to shots of cityscapes and skylines. You can watch the beautiful piece below.
Words from Billy: I'm a London born and bred filmmaker. Mainly I make music videos, but photography is an obsessive hobby of mine and I carry a pocketable camera everywhere I go. My shots follow me all over the world. The ones featured here capture London, Hong Kong, Peru, Amsterdam, and across the USA.
My parents work in the arts so I've grown up with cameras around me all my life. My photography is often observational and distant to the characters; never wanting to intrude. I like to find light, colours and shapes that capture a sense of culture. I shoot when I find something honest. All the shots give me a sense of romance. Even if it’s that melancholic unrequited love.
